MEET BARNEY
Today we met Barney and his dad during our Paws on the Streets outreach.
Our conversation was an important reminder about why we need to approach every encounter with compassion, respect and without assumptions.
Barney’s dad shared that people sometimes assume he isn’t able to properly care for his dog because of his circumstances. But he proudly showed us the food and water he already carries in his wagon for Barney.
He loves his dog. He cares for his dog. And he appreciated the extra kibble and snacks we were able to provide.
One thing he said stayed with us: sometimes people who have homes don’t treat him very kindly, but he continues doing the best he can for Barney.
Housing status doesn’t determine how much someone loves their animal.
As we continue this work, we want to remain mindful that our role isn’t to judge—we’re here to listen, respect, support and help where we can.
Today, Barney reminded us that sometimes making an IMPAKT begins simply by seeing people—and their pets—with dignity.
